Xcede’s Data Science team are working with one of the UK’s leading finance companies (with a surprisingly flexible culture including 1 day working from home, and an insistence on leaving at 5.30pm every day where possible) in continuing to build their 7 person strong Data Science unit.

Everything about this position is exciting - the manager is one of the most well regarded technical specialists in the UK, and the team is working on a dataset (with full,unfettered access) that is dealing with around 1 billion collated touchpoints per day in real-time.

The team have excellent data scientists and data infrastructure engineers in place - now they need a experienced blend of both in one person who will be responsible for implementing theoretical ML models and taking experimental ML pipelines who can turn them into resilient production grade code. As such, you'll also need to be available to help with quality control of Spark code written by the team's data scientists, and understand what they're trying to achieve with the algorithms that are created, so a deep understanding of science (alongside programming ability) is key.


• Expert in big data processing and extreme scalability
• Expert in MapReduce paradigm design pattern
• Expert in SW design patterns
• Good experience with Spark
• Proven experience deploying lambda like architecture
• Not afraid of torturing unstructured data on both batch and stream
• Expert in packaging Spark / MapReduce code for production use
• Strong in both (Java & Scala) & Python
• Good knowledge of graph (Pregel)
• Understand Data science, ML experience a ++ (can explain basic concepts)
• Obsessed with code quality / packaging (CI)

Ideal Applicants:

• 10yr+ experience in software engineering
• 3yr+ experience in distributed computing
• 1yr+ experience working alongside data scientists
• An academic background that is grounded in stats, and commercial experience in engineering.
