My retail client based in Central London are in need of a Data Scientist to join their analytics team for a 3-6 month initial contract.

Your role:

• Carry out key analytical projects, solving business problems with Data Science
• Work with the Analytics Lead, Capability Lead and cross-business stakeholders to deliver the programme proposition and desired capability
• Share knowledge and understanding of reports and analytics to enable the Product Owners and / or other resource to achieve the programme objectives
• Support the design, development, testing, and deployment of any proposed analytics & reporting solutions
• Work closely with the work package and workstream project managers to support the planning and execution of analytical activities to the agreed schedule and budget


• A strong quantitative university degree (e.g. statistics, mathematics, physics, machine learning, engineering)
• Experience of marketing campaign design & analysis and/or insights is essential, working with customer data to find key insight and drive business change
• Strong programming ability in SQL, with a proven experience of analysing data in a corporate environment
• Programming ability in SAS, R or Python
• Proven analytical skills and statistical understanding including time series analysis, operational research or predictive modelling
• Understanding of data availability, data’s strengths and weaknesses
• Knowledge of reporting automation techniques and pros and cons of different approaches
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, including exceptional Excel skills with experience in VBA
• Able to communicate successfully to colleagues at all levels, particularly technical subjects
• Good influencing and relationship building skills


• Understanding of data architecture/governance
• Experience with agile delivery methods for analytics programmes
• Design of Experiments (DOE) including experiment designs, randomisation, blocking, noise, confounding, control, factorials, A/B
• Experience with software engineering techniques including version control, build automation, testing
• Experience with existing reporting technologies, e.g. Tableau, MicroStrategy, and an awareness and curiosity of new ones
• Experience of calculating customer attributes and affinities
• Proficient with Data Science stack (pandas, matplotlib, statsmodels, etc.) or equivalent
• Design and application of a variety of techniques to large and varied datasets at pace. Examples include Machine learning and statistical techniques like clustering, classification, regression, association rule mining, variable reduction, outlier detection
• Evaluation of Data Science techniques and algorithms e.g. ROC, uplift, error, recall, etc.
• Ability to reverse engineer and transform relational data structures
