Data Analytics Manager (SQL, SAS, R, Tableau, Qlik, Microstrategy)
Length: 6 Months
My insurance client in Central London has a newly created (less than 6 months!) CDO team and their job is to deliver the most value from their data possible.
The team has a remit all over the organisation and has an aim to build capability and support as opposed to grow into a large delivery function.
This presents a fantastic opportunity to work in a small, innovative team and shape the strategy and development of the function in line with business needs.
It’s important to stress that the CDO team are NOT IT specialists, they are DATA specialists
“To enable all colleagues to use the power of data and analytics to make better, faster decisions and drive the business forward using data-led innovation – resulting in increased customer intimacy and profitable growth.”
This role requires a mix of technical and interpersonal skills… The successful candidate must demonstrate they are current in the tools they are using and are happy to produce analysis as well as helping drive strategy. They must also bring their personality to the team and show real passion in getting the strategy embedded.
Coding: Being able to code in SQL/SAS/R or equivalent to proficiently to perform core analytical tasks (Note: We are not looking for an IT expert or DBA here!)
Visualisation: Experience of using Tableau/Qlik/Microstrategy or similar platform for data visualisation and discovery
Capability Development: Experience of developing and coaching non-technical colleagues in data analytics – not necessarily direct management experience
Strategic Thinking: Being able to communicate and work with senior colleagues on what the future of data analytics means for my client and what they should do about it
Presentation Skills: The successful candidate has to be able to present in an engaging way (face to face, not just PowerPoint!) to all sorts of people from senior underwriters, to marketers to IT colleagues and be persuasive and accessible.
