As an industry we have seen Social Media go from strength to strength and the market place is very buoyant with a raft of companies searching for top individuals to deliver their social media.
We all have our highlights of 2012 with some notable campaigns from o2’s brilliant tongue in cheek ‘street slang’ twitter responses to Grey Poupon’s "The Society of Good Taste" Facebook app. Econsultancy have listed their top 10 in this blog 10 of the best social media campaigns from 2012. 2012 was an amazing year with Social Media professionals pushing boundaries and pioneering new techniques to engage with the masses and deliver successful campaigns that deliver against the objectives set whether they are a monetary ROI focus or engagement and brand awareness driven.
Following the expected festive slowdown, there are a steady flow of opportunities split across a variety of industries at Xcede Recruitment Solutions; agencies are leading the way, looking to offer this specialism to their clients however several clients are looking to bring this specialism in house, especially the larger companies whose customers/fanbase spans the globe. Companies of all shapes and sizes are becoming aware of the importance of social media as a necessity for their business.
What are Employers looking for?
This differs depending on the client and the role but there is a definite trend in the responses received from my clients that they want someone who ‘gets social’, people who are aware of the importance of good content, who can create content calendars and know how to post it to best effect. Companies are now also looking for social media experts who are taking that next step, people with that creative edge to come up with big ideas, understand how to set a strategy and implement it. Who are ahead of the trend and know what’s new in the world of social whether it’s the new analytics tool or dashboard such as Adobe Social or a new platform such as Pheed and really understand what the company needs to use to achieve its goals and engage with its customers.
With regards to experience this is very dependent on the hiring company but an exposure to monitoring or analytics tools is always helpful, whether it’s Radian6, Sysomos, Brandwatch, Google Analytics, Hootsuite or Tweetdeck all are invaluable in the repertoire for a social media professional.
As with most sectors experience varies at all levels but a ‘social footprint’ is something a lot of companies are now asking to see whether you’re a contributor to the Huffington post, have a large Twitter following or an avid Instagrammer companies want to see that social media is more than ‘just a job’.
As ever, a passionate, punctual and happy candidate is likely to be a successful one!
