As Xcede Recruitment continues its European expansion a number of interesting facts have been revealed in the German Web Analytics market.
As in the UK there is significant demand for candidates within the Web Analytics area, both in clients and agencies. Employers are seeking analysts skilled in several of the common tools – Omniture SiteCatalyst, Discover, Web Trends, Google Analytics et al. In addition there is a demand for optimisation and research experience.
The candidate pool in Germany is significantly smaller than the UK – with the market around 2-3 years behind that of the UK. This has led to many employers having to compromise on skills and experience – many considering more generic online marketers (who may have used web analytics as part of their role but not fully focused on it) – and training them up. The German market offers significant opportunities for these candidates as they become more experienced. Within 12 months many will be able to command significant increases in salary and enjoy positions of responsibility. As an example we placed a candidate into a head of Web Analytics role in an agency in Munich who had 4 years online marketing experience but only 9 months in a pure web analytics role.
As the market matures this position will clearly change. The candidate pool will become more skilled and experienced and will subsequently offer clients more choice. However for the time being candidates with less experience can enjoy fruitful times.
